Annotation | The authors report on a life story project in Kent, which involved linking a group of undergraduate psychology students with older people admitted to mental health in-patient NHS units in East Kent. They outline the methods used, and their findings on the project's cost-effectiveness and of staff and volunteer evaluations. It become clear that the student volunteers felt unsupported on the wards when they arrived. The importance is stressed of providing information to everyone about the project at the outset, so that the student volunteers felt that they were made welcome, involved and know what was expected.
