AnnotationThe purpose of this study was to estimate a higher-order confirmatory factor model of communities of faith that consisted of two tiers. Seven dimensions of church-based social support made up the first tier including emotional support received from rank-and-file church members as well as emotional support received from a pastor. It was hypothesised that these first-order constructs were driven by a higher-order latent variable that denoted a community of faith. The data revealed that emotional support represented the way in which a community of faith was most likely to be manifest while tangible support was a less critical component. (JL).
