Annotation | The Government welcomes the House of Lords Select Committee on Public Service and Demographic Change report `Ready for ageing?', published on 14 March 2013 (HL 140 session 2012-13). The Government summarises its response as "Enabling people to live longer, more prosperous and healthier lives", and that it has "taken further major steps to address the challenges of an ageing society" since the report's publication. It responds to each theme in the Committee's report: extending working lives; secure retirement income; the health and care system; enabling, promoting and supporting independence; and looking to the future. It concludes that the House of Lords report "provides a valuable contribution to an ongoing public debate" and "It is vital that this remains a live issue for Government, the wider public sector and for society as a whole." (RH). |
