AnnotationThe authors explain a new set of tools to audit and improve care environments for people with dementia which have been developed by the King's Fund as part of the Enhancing Healing Environment (EHE) programme. The tool is divided into seven criteria, whereby the environment promotes: meaningful interaction between patients, their families and staff; well-being; mobility; continence and independence; orientation; and calm and security. For another criteria, the environment encourages eating and drinking. The article reports the findings of survey which reviewed the tool's first year of use. (RH).
