Annotation | The guest lecturer at the conference was Robert Francis, chair of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry, who focused on the role of geriatricians and their requirement to be proactive in identifying patients on the verge of needing help. This report outlines other themes at the conference: governance and risk management; cyber care; the contribution of older people themselves (from the Commissioner for Older People in Northern Ireland); older drivers; and the childhood antecedents of chronic diseases in old age (evidence from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing - TILDA).
