AnnotationFrom 1989 to 2009, the share of the population aged 65+ in Slovenia rose from 10.6% to 16.5%. During the same period, the share of the population aged 0-14 decreased from 20.9% to 14%. The old-age dependency ratio has been widening and reached 23.8% in 2010. These trends are projected to continue, and they represent s huge challenge for policymakers. This article considers the actions required in Slovenia to fulfil commitments of the UNECE Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS) for the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA, 2002) for 2007-2012.
