Annotation | The authors share their thoughts on how they have been exploring the problem of 'unmet needs' with care home staff, with a view to responding better to behaviour that is challenging. They compare two theoretical models: Cohen-Mansfield's use of patient characteristics; and Maslow's hierarchy of needs (1943). They describe a problem-solving exercise introduced by the Northumberland County Challenging Behaviour Service which fits in with the concept of person-centred care planning. (RH). |
