AnnotationThe authors share learning from Facing the Future, a project which involved meeting with relatives' groups to talk about end of life issues. Based in south London, the project is a peer support service for carers of people with dementia. It focuses on providing support for carers of people with dementia facing end of life care dilemmas, in the context of objectives in the National Dementia Strategy and the End of Life Care Strategy. The project recruited volunteers who had cared for someone with dementia who had died at least a year before to become peer supporters, who asked care homes about speaking at their regular relatives meetings to introduce the volunteers and generate discussion. The article discusses issues arising from the meetings, including the support needs of the volunteer carers and relatives, and the importance of involving staff. (RH).
