AnnotationForum Interactive is an organisation which delivers learning events using drama and storytelling in different work settings, to influence attitudes and behaviour around work practice and relationships. This article by its co-founder and Director explains how the organisation has worked on an NHS Scotland funded project designed to improve the quality and experience of care for older people in Scotland. It discusses how a particular piece of drama, a 15 minute audio play called Night and Day, originally commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), was developed and is used in care homes across the UK. It focuses particularly on the use of Night and Day in developing person-centred care practice in care homes. It describes an example of how it was used in two care homes as the basis for a two-hour workshop for staff, residents and relatives, to enable them to share experiences, discuss issues and improve practice around night time care for people with dementia and older people in general. The author concludes that drama and other storytelling techniques actively engage people in the experience of others, and encourage people to consider the viewpoints of others. (RH).
