Annotation | The author explains investment in and research on the effects of music therapy made by MHA (formerly Methodist Homes). As part of their person-centred care packages, some residents with varying levels of cognitive function and communication abilities were selected to participate. Hanne Mette Ridder's microanalysis approach along with Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) were used to demonstrate the effectiveness of music therapy - which has subsequently been provided in 40 of MHA's 44 care homes for peope with dementia. Links have also been established with music colleges and collages offering music therapy degree courses. (RH). |
