AnnotationThis pilot study used the DEX questionnaire (P W Burgess et al, 1996), part of the Behavioural Assessment of Dysexecutive Syndrome battery (BADS) to investigate executive functioning difficulties faced by patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Sixteen patients and 16 carers rated the difficulties they face. The questionnaires were completed anonymously during routine attendance at a memory clinic. The patient group rated their impairment, on average, as significantly less impaired than the carer group, t(30)=3.4, p<.005. The implications for the care of patients with AD and their carers are discussed. Possible future areas of research are outlined. (RH).
