Annotation | 'Meaningful moments' are staff-initiated interpersonal encounters that are brief, yet evocative to the person with dementia. They can occur at any time, but are often "spur-of-the-moment". This article considers whether 'meaningful moments' have positive outcomes for care home residents living with advanced dementia. The authors report on efforts to encourage brief personalised interactions with residents in care homes, whether in the course of personal care tasks, at mealtimes, or when cleaning and tidying a resident's room. The research was carried out at Bereweeke Court, a nursing home in Winchester which provides specialist care for people with advanced dementia. (RH). |
