AnnotationThe aim of this study was to examine differences in psychosocial factors between older adults involved in supervised versus unsupervised exercise. A sample of 54 Spanish older adults completed a questionnaire that included measures of social support, exercise self-efficacy and enjoyment. Results showed that older people in the supervised group were more confident in continuing their exercise regime and enjoyed it more but they perceived less support from family than did the unsupervised group. Increased knowledge concerning the differences in the psychosocial factors between older people exercising in different settings may help direct the development of strategies that increase exercise participation and adherence.
