AnnotationThe report is an evidence overview of key pieces of UK research undertaken between 2007 and 2012 which focused on the implementation and uptake of personal budgets and direct payments (including those with dementia) in England. Some key themes examined in the literature overview included system and culture change in older people's independent living, choice and decision making, information and advice, direct payment support services, understanding allowance and spend, budget management, monitoring and review, risk management and contingency planning, time, continuity and consistency, and data and systems for older people living with dementia. The report concludes that older people and their families can benefit from personal budgets and direct payments if they have the information, advice and support they require to empower them to use their budgets to exercise greater degrees of choice and control over their care and support.
