AnnotationIndependent Monitoring Boards (IMBs) are groups of ordinary members of the public who are independent, unpaid and work two or three days a month. Their role is to monitor day-to-day life in their local prison or removal centre, to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. This guide draws attention to the role of the Older People in Prison Forum (OPIPF), which Age UK supports and brings together interested parties from the statutory and voluntary sectors. It provides a monitoring checklist for IMBs and examples of good practice for older people in prison - and how good practice can be recognised. It also includes information about organisations that can provide help directly to older people in prison. (RH).
