Annotation | This study looks at the importance of the older adult in Jewish life, and highlights the importance emphasised in scripture on the responsibility of caring for older parents as well as the association of old age with wisdom. A number of Jewish model programmes that serve older adults in the community are then highlighted, looking at the following areas: social service, adult education and lifelong learning, intergenerational exchange, and research. Gerontological educators and practitioners could well benefit from becoming familiar with Jewish model programmes that support quality of life in old age. (JL). |
