AnnotationResearch on anorexia nervosa has tended to focus on those aged under 65; and the lack of research on those aged 65+ has meant that prevalence of eating disorders in older people is yet to be determined. This article draws attention to evidence on abnormal eating attitudes, the effects of conditions such as osteoporosis, and characteristics of eating disorders in older people generally. The authors suggest that future research needs to consider whether treatments used for younger people would also be appropriate for older people, as well as examining factors that contribute poor nutrition.
