AnnotationThis report has been compiled from desk-based research by Wardman Communications into London's ageing population, commissioned by Age Concern in London. Its purpose is to challenge the conventional, stereotyped view of older people as passive recipients of services. Rather, it looks at older people as consumers (of goods, services, leisure, holidays, and health and care); as contributors (through employment, volunteering or as carers); and as citizens, contributing to civic life and to social cohesion. It uses facts and figures, complemented by case studies, to make the point that businesses, decisions-makers and planners need to recognise the employment and other opportunities presented by one in six of London's population.
