AnnotationIntegration has an impact on those working care services. As the boundaries between health and social care are redefined, staff have had to move beyond traditional professional identities and adapt to new ways of working. This summary outlines findings of a study the focus of which was on the way "social care" roles are formed in integrated teams in different settings so that we can better understand how to support and develop staff in these roles. The study is based on 794 integrated teams in England, Scotland and Wales, involved either in older people or in mental health care areas. The study draws attention to the complexity and problems of definition: how people understand their roles, and how their roles relate to the roles of others. The study was funded by the Department of Health (DH) as part of the Policy Research programme. (RH).
