Annotation | Home safety is vital for older people who want to live independently. It is estimated that a third of pensioner households live in sub-standard housing. This paper outlines a pilot project conducted by Thomas Pocklington Trust with support from Birmingham City Council to assess the benefits of individual home safety checks for older people with sight loss. It concluded that checks filled a gap in the support available: they were useful, practicable and helped to maintain people's independence. However, the pilot study was too small to evaluate questions regarding the specific needs of those with sight loss. (RH). |
