Annotation | The expression of one's sexuality is a fundamental mental health need of all individuals regardless of age or gender. In the present study the authors sought to determine gynaecologists' knowledge and attitudes regarding sexuality in older women. 141 gynaecologists in five U.S. hospitals were surveyed using the Aging Sexual Attitudes and Knowledge Scale (ASKAS). A key finding of the study was that although gynaecologists demonstrate adequate knowledge of ageing sexuality, there is a diminished permissive attitude. Even less positive attitudes were shown among older physicians. (JL). |
