Annotation | Functional decline in older people is rarely related to a single problem. Rather, an older person can be affected by various acute or chronic problems that affect mobility and lead to a loss of independence. Timely recognition of functional difficulties can lead to interventions that may prevent or arrest such decline. This article focuses on the functional assessment of older people by generalist clinicians, using standardised assessment tools that measure motor function and activities of daily living (ADLs). It is based on the authors' clinical experience, informed by a search of published literature. (RH). |
