Annotation | This special themed section includes an editorial followed by five articles exploring quality of life issues in residential and nursing home care, with a special emphasis on frailty in older people. The editorial explores definitions of the term `frailty', arguing that the concept should encompass social network factors that can be used for determining the need of care. Other items in this section include a paper on the appropriateness of daily medication use in patients with advanced dementia; the use of potentially inappropriate medications in the care of frail older people; the Green House model of nursing home care; a medical perspective on elder abuse; and spirituality and ageing.
