Annotation | This pioneering research report examines the experiences and expectations that gay, lesbian and bisexual people aged over 55 in Britain have about getting older. The survey asked about the participants' personal support structures, family connections and living arrangements. It also asked about how they feel about getting older, the help they expect to need, and what they would like from health and social care services. The findings showed that more than half of gay and lesbian people in Britain lack confidence that public services will meet their needs. The data paints a compelling picture of a group of people who are more likely to live alone, are estranged from their families and who face the prospect of their informal support and social networks falling away.
