AnnotationThe survey looked at the perspectives of Black and minority ethnic (BME) older people in the UK on the quality of health and social care they received. The research also looked at the perspectives of mainstream providers of health and social care (eg doctors, health and social care managers) as well as Black and minority organisations' perspectives. The report concludes with a brief snapshot of minority ethnic voluntary organisations in Europe. Among the main problems BME older people faced were language problems, cultural barriers and discrimination. Social care workers and managers highlighted special problems of access that BME older people faced. The survey found that there is a thriving voluntary sector in the UK serving BME communities, however the needs of older people within these communities are poorly met. (JL).
