Annotation | The study, from Dublin, Ireland, looked at vitamin D deficiency in older adults and the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation including seasonal variation. Study participants taking supplements were found to have a higher mean serum 25(OH)D compared with those not taking supplements. There is a case for universal vitamin supplementation in Irish older people. Further research is needed to establish the optimum dose. (JL). |
