AnnotationA retrospective cohort study was carried out to investigate the incidence of hip fractures in older patients in the United Kingdom with and without Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Patients with AD were found to be at greater risk of hip fractures compared to non-AD patients. AD patients who experienced a hip fracture had an increased mortality rate compared to non-AD patients who experienced a hip fracture. Concludes that patients with AD and their carers should be advised on how to prevent hip fractures and more attention should be given to AD patients undergoing rehabilitation following a fracture.
