Annotation	This report provides a description of global trends in population ageing and features information on ageing in rural and urban areas, pension systems and the impact of the 2007/09 financial crisis on pension systems. Individual chapters focus on: demographic determinants and speed of population ageing; the changing balance among age groups; demographic profile of the older population; and socio-economic characteristics of the older population. The report is accompanied by a CD-ROM which contains a comprehensive set of indicators of the ageing process by development region, major area, region and country or area. The report is intended to provide a demographic foundation for the follow-up activities of the Second World Assembly on Ageing, Madrid, 2002. (RH).
