AnnotationDuring 2008 and 2009, Bristol City Council removed the residential wardens from its sheltered housing schemes for older people. This had followed a Government decision that costs of providing wardens could no longer be met from Supporting People money, unless residents in a scheme were in demonstrable need of a live-in warden. This report is based on a postal survey sent to 510 residents of former council sheltered housing schemes in all parts of Bristol; 198 responded. In all cases, only a tiny minority thought that things were better in respect of: quality of service; individual quality of life; security and safety; cleanliness; social activities; coping with cold weather; and loneliness and isolation. Much of the report is given over to individual responses. Appendices include the questionnaire, the preliminary report, and a list of the sheltered housing dwellings. (RH).
