AnnotationAn annual publication which provides statistical information on the health of the population and the range of health services in Wales. This series replaces four previous titles: Health and Personal Social Services for Wales; Key Statistical Indicators for Health in Wales; Welsh Hospital Waiting List Bulletin; Mental Health Statistics for Wales. The sources for most of the statistics are returns made to the Welsh Assembly Government, either directly or through various authorities. Of particular note concerning older adults, there is a chapter on Private Health Care which provides data on adult care homes with nursing; private and voluntary healthcare settings and use of NHS hospitals by private patients. There is a small publication which complements this series called "Key health statistics for Wales". During the years 1999 to 2008 there were successive mergers of NHS Trusts that reduced the numbers from 26 to 8; data presented in the 2009 edition cover this time period. With effect from 1 October 2009, a further major reorganisation takes place in the NHS in Wales. This annual series will only be available in electronic format from the 2011 edition. (KJ).
