AnnotationThe author examined Medline, PubMed and Cochrane databases, and searched websites of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Royal College of Physicians (RCP), and British Geriatrics Society for published guidelines on urinary incontinence (UI). This clinical review examines evidence from systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, cohort studies and case studies, and discusses current guidelines for the management of stress and urge urinary incontinence in older people. It considers the prevalence of UI; and how patients present, their assessment and treatment. Information sources are suggested for healthcare professionals and patients. (RH).
