AnnotationAs part of the ESPRIT Project (Enquête de Santé Psychologique - Risques, Incidence et Traitement), the authors recruited 1433 community-dwelling French people aged 65+ (mean age 72.5). Participants were examined at baseline, and at 2, 4 and 7 years follow-up by using a standardised interview incorporating cognitive testing to identify both dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Overall results suggest that increasing crystallised intelligence and reading ability, fruit and vegetable consumption, and eliminating depression and diabetes are likely to have the greatest impact on reducing the incidence of dementia.
