AnnotationThis edition of The Journal has two main themes: the challenges and complexities of health care provision for older people in their countries or regions; and the important role of civil society and multi-stakeholder coordination in driving positive social change, not just for older people, but for societies as a whole. So for example, Dr Constantina Safiliou-Rothschild writes about age-based inequalities in medical treatment based on a review of published medical research undertaken during the last three decades in medical centres and large hospitals of 18 countries, including the USA, Canada and 14 EU countries. Other contributions are from, amongst others: Dr Androulla Vassiliou, the European Union Health Commissioner; Diana Crossan, Retirement Commissioner for New Zealand and an interview with Dr John Creighton Campbell (Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Michigan and a visiting researcher at the Tokyo University Institute of Gerontology.
