Annotation | This is the BMJ's obituary of Robert N Butler, psychiatrist (b 1927; q 1953 Columbia) who died on 4 July 2010. Amongst his many achievements, Butler borrowed from the terms racism and sexism to coin the widely used word "ageism" to describe age discrimination. For the last fifteen years of his life, Butler was the President and CEO of the International Longevity Center in New York. (KJ). |
