AnnotationResearch undertaken falls into three different themes or perspectives on older people's well-being: multi-dimensional analysis; dynamic perspectives on economic well-being during old age; and cross-national comparisons of income dynamics in old age. The book is organised into three parts, starting with setting the context, which covers conceptual approaches to well-being, methodological issues, and a description of the British pension and social benefit system. Part 2, empirical findings, includes an assessment of income deprivation and limiting health in old age, and income mobility in old age (partly written with Katherine Rake and Jane Falkingham). Conclusions in Part 3 discuss the implications of the research for public policies towards a social safety net in old age. Datasets used are the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS), and the Netherlands Socio-Economic Panel (SEP, 1991-1997) survey. (RH).
