AnnotationWith the coalition government committed to boosting dementia research funding, this article looks at where increased resources could make a difference. It continues Community Care's Dementia Declaration campaign which began in the lead up to the general election. The article notes that while dementia costs the UK economy five times as much per year as cancer, the government and charities spend 12 times as much on cancer as dementia research. The author looks at examples of research on causes, biological markers, therapies, genetic variations and drug trials for dementia - each of which would benefit from greater funding. (RH).
