AnnotationElsewhere in this issue of the British Medical Journal is an article, 'Effectiveness of a specific care plan in patients with Alzheimer's disease: cluster randomised trial (PLASA study)' by Nourhashami and colleagues. Schneider's short editorial article notes that their study highlights that specialists need to build a contract with patients and their families to provide the best quality of care; to review care more often; and collaborate with other care providers including general practitioners (GPs), social workers and nurse specialists. Such care plans are intuitively a good idea, but it is hard to prove that they are effective. (RH).
