Annotation | 'The Coalition: our programme for government' follows negotiations between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, and sets out their joint plans for government for the next five years. Carers UK comments on the four key areas which are relevant to carers: welfare reform, the National Health Service (NHS), social care, and deficit reduction. Carers UK expresses concern about the impact of the deficit reduction programme on families who provide care and who rely on public services in order to lead their daily lives. Carers UK also welcomes pledges to: extend flexible working rights to all employees; restore the earnings link for the basic state pension; and maintain the winter fuel allowance, free TV licences, free bus travel, free eye tests and prescriptions for older people.
