AnnotationPaper written and presented by author at the Aged Care Australian and the Australian Association of Gerontology national conference titled 'The Age of Celebration and Expectation', Tuesday 7th September 1999, Sydney. The paper is based on the work carried out by the Abuse Prevention Program of the Aged Rights Advocacy Service in Adelaide, Australia. The Program conducted a retrospective analysis of the first 100 cases where the outcome was known, in order to assess what was effective in enabling the older person to stop abuse and why. The author argues that the rights advocacy model that is used is effective in enabling South Australians to overcome the abuse they have experienced. (KJ/RH).
