Annotation | There are 16,000 adults with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities in England. This article reviews research conducted by Jim Mansell at the Tizard Centre, University of Kent, 'Raising our sights: services for adult with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities'. His report makes 33 detailed recommendations to the government on what needs to happen for progress to be made with the Valuing People policy agenda. Melanie Henwood confirms that the there is a still a long way to go before the needs of this group of adults are fully met, although self-directed support points the way forward. (RH). |
