AnnotationThe Conservative Party's plans to help older people are presented as four main themes. First, on work and equality, there is the intention to stop discrimination against older people, to support older workers, and to help older people back into jobs. Second, more financial security, by protecting pensioners' benefits (the Winter Fuel Allowance, free bus passes, pension credit, Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance); and creating new forms of help to promote more independence and security. Third, on health and independence, older people will be given more control over their health and social care. Lastly, on family and community, older people should be at the forefront of the Conservatives' attempts to build the Big Society (through community action and voluntary work). Older people will be given more rights and more opportunities to take a more active role in building a more family-friendly society, including greater rights for grandparents. (RH).
