Annotation | As social care changes to meet growing demand from an ageing population, jobs in social care are also changing. Many social care workers are worried about the impact of the public spending squeeze, but in the longer term, many more of them will be needed. It is also clear that as the post-war baby boomers reach old age, the social care workforce will need new skills to meet rising expectations. Adult social care needs an extra million workers by 2025 to deliver the national service outlined in a pending White Paper. Is this possible in a downturn? This supplement looks at how social care is preparing for the workforce challenges ahead, for example the impact of personalisation - that is, giving people choice and control over the care and support they receive.
