Annotation | Political parties must address the role of carers who provide vital support to older people, ensuring quality of life, and easing pressure on the National Health Service (NHS). In this excerpt from 'A call to action', UNITE Federation and the Civil Service Pensioners' Alliance (CSPA) call on each party to commit to a national care service which focuses on prevention rather than cure. These pensioner organisations also call for acceleration of the approval of new drugs through reform of NICE, and for reforming commissioning processes of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to ensure that local district hospitals are able to provide as full a range of services as possible to treat all patients.
