AnnotationIn a study of 5995 men aged 65+ in the US, 99% of surviving participants answered a postal questionnaire about falls and fractures every 4 months for a mean 6.2 year follow-up. Incidence of rib fracture was 3.5 per 1000 person years. Men with a history of rib fracture had similar characteristics to men with osteoporosis, including frequent falls, and a two-fold increased risk of future fracture of the hip, wrist or rib.
