AnnotationA large number of households, including some of those on low incomes, own their own homes outright, others are in the process of buying them. Over time, they may need to draw on the store of wealth represented by that home. This report examines how households currently access this wealth, must obviously trading down and remortgaing for equity withdrawal. As formal equity release seems to one of the less significant channels, this report suggests how and what government policies might help in a period of reduced public expenditure. This report is published alongside a second paper, 'Funding future care need: the role of councils in supporting individuals to access the capital in their homes', also available from the Resolution Foundation website.
