AnnotationThis research summary outlines the findings from a literature review that was commissioned to provide greater insight into how the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) back to work (BTW) provision supports the over 50s' return to work. DWP evaluation reports that were published between January 2000 and December 2008 were included in the exercise. Three research questions were considered. First, what is known about outcomes on BTW provision for the 50+ population? Second, what types of provision are associated with positive work outcomes? Lastly, what evidence data are available for secondary data analysis? The main findings relate to general programme impacts, advisory support and training. There was less evidence available on the role of work experience, wage supplements and financial supports. The full report of these research findings is published as Department for Work and Pensions Research report 615, and can be downloaded from the weblink given. (RH).
