AnnotationLeading experts on social exclusion and poverty in old age provide strong evidence of the scale of current disadvantage in the UK, and suggest actions that could begin to change the picture of unequal ageing. They examine social class, followed by inequalities in income, health and well-being, and housing. Other contributors look at ageism and perceptions of age, quality of life in older age, and why ageing is so unequal. A concluding chapter suggests that although there has been progress in the last decade, major inequalities remain. The book is dedicated to Help the Aged and its work for older people over its lifetime from 1961 to 2009. (RH).
