Annotation | This is the third in a series of annual demographic reports of the UK, providing an overview of the latest statistics on the population. This year's article also includes a short section on economic recessions, and a summary of migration following the enlargement of the European Union (EU) in May 2004. In addition to providing a statistical summary of the impact of migration from the 'Accession' countries, mention is made of flows during the current recession. There is discussion of how this complex recent migration has challenged traditional definitions of migration, and how this impacts on the need for Office for National Statistics (ONS) and other government agencies to measure these flows accurately.
