AnnotationIn Sweden, both the home care services and institutional care for older people were enlarged from the the 1960s until the late 1970s. Despite an increase in the proportion of the Swedish population aged 80+, both forms of care have decreased in scope in the 1980s and 1990s. Caregiving work performed in the recipient's home often means that the encounter between the worker and the recipient is of an intimate nature. The authors explore central emotional dimensions of the relationship, called "caring climate", between the home-care worker and the recipient. They also investigate how characteristics of the parties, different aspects of the caregiving situation and organisational processes influence this caring climate. This research has been supported by the Swedish Council for Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Swedish Council for Social Research. (RH).
