AnnotationMost people have a view on the importance of having good neighbours. This book, based on research commissioned by Age Concern, explains why neighbouring really matters to older people, and how their lives and well-being are affected by differing levels of support in their neighbourhoods. It explores the most local aspects of older people's social lives, examining themes such as privacy and responsibility, reciprocity, friendship, isolation and loneliness, and sources of support. It offers a basis for further practical work which might help ensure that older people have supportive neighbours around them, and where possible, a social environment to which they can contribute.
